Attributed to Martin Borenstein and produced by Brown Saltman, this walnut modular wall unit dates to the 1960s and exemplifies the clean architectural lines, functional versatility, and refined material palette associated with California modern design.

Crafted in walnut, the system consists of three independent components that can be disassembled, transported, and arranged with relative ease. The configuration includes two lower storage cabinets and an upper hutch featuring open shelving, sliding doors, and integrated drawers.

A particularly distinctive feature is the reversible lower sliding door system, allowing either the walnut or white side of the panels to face outward. This flexibility creates multiple visual configurations while preserving the unit’s balanced mid-century aesthetic.

The warm walnut casework is complemented by crisp white laminate cabinet tops and original stainless steel pulls, creating a sophisticated contrast characteristic of high-quality American furniture from the period. The upper hutch provides a thoughtful combination of open display shelving, concealed storage behind sliding doors, and two integrated drawers, while the lower cabinets offer generous enclosed storage with adjustable shelving and multiple drawer compartments.

Measuring an impressive 96.5 inches in overall width, the unit offers substantial storage and display capacity while maintaining a visually light and adaptable presence. Its modular construction allows it to function equally well as a wall unit, storage cabinet, display cabinet, media console, library storage system, or room divider.

A partial original Brown Saltman California label remains present and is shown in the listing photographs. Attribution to Martin Borenstein is based on documented design characteristics and comparison to known examples from the period.

An exceptionally versatile and highly functional example of American mid-century modern modular cabinetry.
