An iconic and highly architectural Paul McCobb Planner Group secretary desk for Winchendon Furniture, executed in warm maple with McCobb’s signature black iron frame construction.
This refined modular design features a floating writing table with integrated drawers supporting an upper cabinet section with open shelving, a drop-front secretary compartment, and suspended interior drawers housed within an exposed black iron framework. The composition embodies the clean linear geometry and restrained material palette that made the Planner Group one of the most celebrated American modern furniture collections of the mid-century period.
The desk retains its original visual lightness and balanced proportions while offering exceptional functionality through its modular upper cabinet and expansive writing surface. The drop-front secretary opens to reveal a spacious interior workspace finished in white laminate, contrasting beautifully against the warm chestnut-toned maple casework and matte black iron structure.
The manufacturer marking “Planner Group by Winchendon” is present on the exterior side of one of the lower writing table drawers.
A sophisticated and increasingly collectible example of American mid-century modern design by Paul McCobb.
